      Packington Newsletter  - January 2012

Firstly, thanks to Alan and Shelagh for organising the 18th Annual New Year Walk.   It was a beautiful day and we had 22 Packington members join us with at least one dog each – we never did manage to count them all but there must have been over 40 dogs.  Alan carried the refreshments all the way which were greatly enjoyed en route.   It was also John Hutton’s birthday, which was appropriately recognised, as per the photo below:

From the beginning of January, 2012, we are starting a new League, which is additional to the Club Competition League.   This new league will be run along the lines of the Agility Club league but will include results from all shows – not just Kennel Club shows.   The difference will be that K.C. shows will score double the points gained at the Independent shows.

You will be able to add your results to the Club website by following the instructions printed below:

      ·         Go to website www.packingtonagility.co.uk

      ·         Click on club league on top of page

      ·         On the Packington League page that appears, on the right hand side, under competition league 2012, click on submit points

      ·         On the page that appears complete all the required details, make sure that you enter the points as per the details shown, then click submit.

      ·         Repeat above for any further results to be added

      ·         Results will be updated and published on the website regularly

      ·         Any queries contact Greg/Debs greg@gregb.orangehome.co.uk or phone 0121 788 0822.

Greg is in charge of this League should you have any problems and he will make sure there is no cheating!!!.    Roger will continue to manage the Club Competition League which you do not need to do anything about.

Beer and Skittles night will be on Saturday, February 11th at Ye Olde Knowle Bowling Club, Grange Road, Dorridge (next door to the Railway Inn).   Apart from the skittles, a fish and chip supper is included.   Cost is £8 per head for the evening – and you might even win that back on the ‘knock-out’ skittles game.  Family and friends welcome.  Poster is now up at training for you to complete.
                                          …………………………………………………………………………..

Our A.G.M. will be on Monday, 13th February at Knowle & Dorridge  Cricket Club, Station Road, Knowle.   The room is booked from 7.45 p.m. for the meeting to start at 8.15 o.m. prompt.   This is where you can have your say on how the Club is run and, if you would like to stand for Committee or have any business you would like discussed please let Alison know as soon as possible.

The Annual Awards are presented at this meeting so, if you think you will have received an award, please make sure you come along.  Come along anyway to support those that have received our awards.

                                                      …………………………………………………………

Martin Reid has kindly agreed to give a training day on Sunday, 1st April at his own training ground.   Times will be 9.00 a.m – 12 noon and 1.00 p.m– 4p.m.  Cost is £15 per dog and, if you would like to go on the course, please put your name down on the sheet which will be available at training fairly soon.

The success of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Display Team which Becky Fellows and Bella took part in at Discover Dogs, means they have all been asked to Crufts and will be in the main arena at 13.10 p.m. on Sunday 11thMarch just before the Agility Champs class.

It would be nice if anyone  who is going from Packington on that day could stop by and support her.

                           ……………………………………………………………………………………………….

Whilst training at Swallowfield, will you please try and keep your dogs quiet.   Some people just stand there with the dogs barking away on the end of their lead and make no attempt whatsoever to calm them – it is part of your dog’s training to be quiet when you want them to be.   This is important because we do not wish to have complaints from the owner of Swallowfield saying that her little boy is being kept awake at night because of the noise.   This has happened once before and we do not want it repeated, as it may lead to us having to leave the venue.  If this happens it will be nigh on impossible to find an alternative venue – so PLEASE try to keep your dogs quiet.

On the subject of Swallowfield, I have already had a complaint this year of dog poo being left on the top of the arena surround.   I moved one last week which I spotted – please do not forget you have left one or, better still, remove it to the bin at the top of the drive as soon as you have cleared it up.   Just don’t leave it till later.

Dogs are also to be on a lead at all times, apart when actually on the equipment during training.   Please remember this!

On a lighter note, is there anyone who would be prepared to video members at the 4-Way Match.  We could then have a video evening which could show up some interesting handling and behaviour!   Maybe the husband or wife or even friend of a Club member who doesn’t run a dog and who would be happy to film for most of the day.   Please let Sue know.

That’s it for now – except for one more photo taken on the walk.
